We could not close this series of articles related to geolocation on mobile devices without mentioning Facebook Places.

This integrated application on Facebook allows users to publicize the exact location where they are through this social network and share it with all their contacts. With this service, users not only know the status of their friends but also may know where they are where they are eating and ice cream or which bar they are drinking a beer. Furthermore this service could provide information about companies, discounts and offers, like its competitor.
Although this service by Facebook was available after the popular social network related with geolocation, Forsquare, soon the number of users that chose Facebook instead of Forsquare increased. The reason is obvious, users who want to share its location with as many people as possible and before that numbers speak.
However, Facebook Places users soon lost users that did check-in in shops and locals and it was relegated simply to the users that share their location. The boy ate the big one. Facebook places ceased to be in direct competition Forsquare and redefined its performance targets as shown in the following video.
After a year, Facebook removes Facebook Places and replaces it with a “geotag everything you do,” it includes also privacy options reformulated to provide more user control in a simpler way. The possibility for those who make specific offers checkin on a site is maintained for companies who want to use, but with a much narrower focus.
